No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you, AND your questions, are welcome here.
Welcome to the blog for First Central Congregational Church United Church of Christ, Omaha's progressive Christian voice. First Central is the oldest continuously-worshiping Protestant church in Omaha. We celebrated our 150th Anniversary May 4th, 2006. We are a progressive congregation and the second church in Omaha to become Open and Affirming (Hooray!). We are located at 421 South 36th Street, Omaha, NE 68131 (the corner of 36th and Harney). We hope you take the time to explore our blog postings; you'll get a flavor of our progressive and scholarly approach to religion and learn more about our diverse and welcoming church family. To contact us please call our office line at (402)345-1533 or email info@firstcentral.org.

Our Open and Affirming Statement

In our ongoing quest for hearts that open, minds that understand, and lives that serve, we welcome into our fellowship, membership, leadership, and employment, all people, regardless of abilities, race, gender, sexual orientation, or any God-given characteristic.

An Invitation to Dialogue

First Central invites you to the table to talk, share, and express your thoughts. As an open community, we want to hear your feedback and comments regarding our faith community and the issues facing our world today. The goals of this blog are:
  • To inform the local community about events happening at First Central and in the community;
  • To highlight the wonderful, inviting, and neat people (and the great work they do) who make up our church family;
  • To be a place to voice our concerns and offer solutions to the issues effecting the community;
  • To be a bridge between all generations by encouraging intergenerational discussions;
  • To have fun and take advantage of the technology of the day!
